Police found a man bleeding on a street corner early Sunday morning and arrested one of his coworkers hours later.

Jerold L. Gegenheimer, 46, was arrested on charges of assault in connection with the stabbing of James Cook, who was “bleeding heavily” from his stomach and chest at midnight Sunday, police said.

The incident began when Cook, an assistant manager at a tattoo parlor, drove to the business with his boss to confront Gegenheimer, another assistant manager who police said was drunk and sleeping on a couch inside.

When Cook, 41, arrived at the parlor, Dr. Skin Wizard, 508 E. Euclid Ave., his boss and Gegenheimer got into a heated argument, police said, and Cook intervened, walking his boss outside.

Gegenheimer followed the two and threatened to kill each of them, telling Cook he was “going to the hospital,” police said.

A struggle ensued between Cook and Gegenheimer, and Cook told police he tried to punch Gegenheimer but missed, injuring his right hand.

When he stood up, Cook said he noticed he was bleeding. According to a police report, “that’s when James realized he had either been cut or stabbed.”

Cook never saw a weapon, police said, but did notice something shiny in Gegenheimer’s mouth before the struggle.

When he was interviewed at the police station, police said Gegenheimer was uncooperative.

According to the police report, when he was questioned about the incident, Gegenheimer replied “the issue is like toilet tissue, you can either blow your nose with it, or blow it out your (expletive).”
